Excelsior Wellness is proud to announce we have received a $500,000 grant award from The Sunderland Foundation of Overland Park, Kansas. The award will be used for environmental upgrades at our Wellness Center located at 3754W. Indian Trail Road on North Spokane.
The Sunderland Foundation, located in Overland Park, Kansas, has served as the donating arm to the Ash Grove Cement company since 1945 and contributes to communities where it does business. This is The Sunderland Foundation’s first-ever award presented to Excelsior Wellness.
An alternative health care organization, Excelsior Wellness, a 501.c.3, serves youth and families from across the Inland Northwest through our Family Medicine practice, Holistic School, Integrated Care Center, and Wellness Center. The roots of Excelsior Wellness were planted in 1905.
“Excelsior Wellness Center will accomplish renovations that contribute to the environments that promote wellness and recovery for those we serve through this generous support,” said Andrew Hill, CEO of Excelsior Wellness.
“We are sincerely grateful to include The Sunderland Foundation in our mission of empowering youth and families to live and stay well,” Hill said.
Located in 55,000-square feet, the Wellness Center was built in the 1960s by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd and has seen limited upgrades since the initial construction. Excelsior plans to use the grant for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning improvements, as well as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing improvements in the continued effort to meet new standards of energy efficiency as mandated by the Washington Legislature.
To meet the state’s Clean Buildings Act, Excelsior Wellness is following the recommendation of its Spokane-based general contractor McKinstry Co. and integrating mechanical systems upgrades with the Wellness Center expansion and remodel. The combination of the projects has moved the original projected cost from $4.5 million to $7.4 million. Construction is scheduled to begin at the beginning of 2022.
