Spokane Area Medical Providers
.Excelsior Wellness Family Medicine has a team of board-certified and credentialed medical providers who integrate primary care, medication management and outpatient mental health counseling. This compassionate team works together to create comprehensive care plans that focus on the patient as a whole person.
Lisa Faillers, MS, LMFT
Lisa holds a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology with a Marriage and Family Therapy emphasis. She has been a licensed mental health provider since 2008. Lisa has worked with individuals and families for the last 15 years with the belief that emotional, physical and spiritual health all work together for overall well-being. She uses Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and client education to improve wellness.
Lisa enjoys outdoor activities including cycling, paddleboarding, snowboarding, hiking, camping and gardening.
Brian Nelson, DO, NMM
Dr. Nelson is a native of Spokane and joined Excelsior Family Medicine in 2022. He received a degree in Biochemistry from Western Washington University, and went on to complete a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from Pacific Northwest University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, WA. After completing his residency, Dr. Nelson worked as a provider for over 5 years in Puyallup, before returning home to Spokane. He enjoys being outside gardening or puttering in the yard, camping with his family which includes his wife and two young children. His favorite pastime activities are cycling, swimming, and backpacking.
Brianna Melvin, DNP, ARNP, FNP-C
Brianna Melvin was born and raised in Michigan, where she attended Grand Valley State University for her undergraduate nursing degree. She moved to Spokane in 2018, where she worked as an RN in adult cardiac and neonatal intensive care.
After discovering a passion for wellness and preventative care, Brianna pursued a graduate degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Washington State University. She enjoys working with all ages and values a holistic approach to healthcare.
Brianna enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and golden retriever. Her hobbies include hiking, running, gardening, camping, and traveling.
Daniel Repsold, MD
Dr. Repsold was born in Madrid, Spain, where his parents were missionaries at the time. His family moved to Spokane when he was four years old. He went to Whitworth University for his undergraduate studies and then left for California to attend Medical School at Loma Linda University.
Wanting to return to Spokane, he completed his residency through the Spokane Family Medicine program and is excited to continue practicing medicine in this community. Dr. Repsold was attracted to family medicine because of the long-term relationships physicians establish with patients. As he works with patients to form care plans, Dr. Repsold approaches each patient as an individual to address physical, emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual wellness. Family medicine incorporates all of his interests within the medical field and is the way he can serve others to the fullest.
He and his wife, Stacie, have three daughters, and enjoy reading, movies, food, church, camping, gardening, and spending time with their families.
Annabeth McGuire, DNP, FNP
Annabeth is a graduate of Washington State University, Spokane, having received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2024. She completed her undergraduate degree in Nursing at Gonzaga University. Annabeth worked as a Registered Nurse for six years at Sacred Heart Medical Center working with medical oncology patients. She enjoys art, including acrylics and resin pouring, watching documentaries, and travel. An active exercise enthusiast, Annabeth enjoys cycling, weight lifting, running and stretching. She is also fluent in Spanish.
Joel Simmons, MSN-PMHNP, ARNP
Joel Simmons, a North Carolina native, embarked on his nursing journey at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he earned his undergraduate degree. His nursing career began at Duke University Hospital, where he honed his skills in medical intensive care and behavioral response as a registered nurse.
Joel’s career took an exciting turn when he discovered his passion for mental health, prompting him to pursue further education as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He moved to Spokane in 2024. With a deep belief in holistic mental healthcare, Joel advocates the integration of physical activity as a key component of treatment.
Joel enjoys activities like weightlifting, running, hiking, skiing, and diving into a good book.
Rachel Felgenhauer, DNP-PMHNP, ARNP
Rachel is a Spokane native and is an active part of the healthcare industry here. She worked as a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center in the Cardiac Transplant unit and the NICU. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from WSU as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Children’s Studies and Addiction Studies through Eastern Washington University. She attended graduate school at WSU where she received a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She feels a connection to helping future generations of healthcare workers and is an undergraduate nursing instructor at North Idaho College and at Gonzaga University.
Rachel has creative energy and enjoys working with fiber arts including knitting, spinning, macrame and weaving. Reading, travel and camping are on her list of favorite activities.
Kathleen Mathews, MSW, LICSW, SUDPT, MHP
Kathleen, (but likes to be called Katie) was born and raised in the U.S. Navy, where her parents were career Officers. Eastern Washington University initially brought Katie to Spokane from western Washington; what keeps her in Spokane is the community and outdoor opportunities. Katie completed her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California in 2018; she became a Clinical Social Worker in Washington in July 2023. In 2021, she completed a Substance Use Disorder Professional Certificate from the City University of Seattle.
Katie engages in various self-care activities outside the clinic, including spending time with her partner and dog, cross-stitching, lifting at her favorite gym, and soaking up the sun on her bike, paddleboard, or hammock. Community engagement, advocacy, and partnerships are important to Katie; she supports the greater Spokane community by volunteering as the Community Director in the Junior League of Spokane.
Samantha Renner, MS, LMHC
Samantha Renner is a licensed mental health counselor and has been practicing for the last 12 years. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Eastern Washington University in 2011 and 2014 and is a nationally board-certified counselor. She is currently a PhD candidate and expects to graduate with a doctorate in leadership in 2026. She has worked in pediatric residential facilities, co-occurring mental health and chemical dependency programs, and private practice. For the last year she has been running a Spokane County pilot program to bring mental health counseling in early learning centers for preschool teachers. Prior to this she has worked in pediatrics and worked alongside physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists to treat children in a collaborative setting.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, crafting, and playing with her dogs. Samantha is a Spokane native and has grown up in the northside community. She has a passion for creating mental health program’s in our community and helping to improve access to mental health services.
